FiveM anticheat, free vs paid (2026): from a small server to a 2,000-player city, without false bans or server lag
Free FiveM anticheat options (event checks, sv_scriptHookAllowed, ban lists) against paid ones (FiveGuard, WaveShield, X3D Anti-Cheat): what each detects, what it costs, where false positives come from, at what server size a paid one pays off, and what an anticheat must do and must never do on a 1,000–2,048-player city so it does not lag the server, plus a free anti-exploit checklist to do first.
"Which free FiveM anticheat is good" gets asked every week. The honest answer: free ones stop some things, paid ones stop more, but the best one is the one that never bans an innocent player. A server that false-bans loses players faster than a server with a few cheaters.
On a 1,000–2,048-player city the numbers make this sharper: cheaters at just 1% = 20 online at any moment, and a false-positive rate of only 0.5% of daily deaths = a dozen innocent bans a day. Evidence before the ban is not a bonus, it is mandatory, and the anticheat itself must not become the thing that lags the server once you reach two thousand.

Free anti-exploit work to do before buying anything
- Validate every important event server-side: money, items, weapons, distance, elapsed time. Never trust client values. This is 80% of dupe prevention and it is a script problem, not an anticheat problem
- A core that locks the economy before restarts: the last 10 minutes before a txAdmin restart is the biggest dupe window. ESX Legacy Core — X3D Build (free) closes it and logs every money/item change to a table and Discord webhooks
sv_scriptHookAllowed 0inserver.cfg, disabling the ScriptHook most cheat menus need- No leaked scripts: half of them carry backdoors that let outsiders run commands on your server. Read how to check a FiveM script is safe
- Require Discord + Steam on join and store every identifier, so a ban is hard to evade
- Rate-limit events in resources that move money, against
TriggerServerEventspam
With all six done, a small server where players know each other barely needs a paid anticheat. At 2,000 players, items 1 and 6 stop being a checklist and become the rule for vetting every script: a bought script that trusts client values becomes a dupe hole the moment there are 2,000 players, and every event needs a rate limit because 20 modified clients are 20 spam sources.

What free anticheats can do
- Block forbidden events and basic weapon/vehicle blacklists
- Identifier ban lists
- Detect known-name foreign resources
What they cannot do: detect god mode / speed hacks without false positives (needs grace periods on spawn and revive) · detect renamed injectors · capture evidence screenshots · HWID bans · Discord-role queues · global bans. They are also usually unmaintained; a FiveM update silently breaks the checks.
Which FiveM anticheats are there? Paid options on the market
| Strength | Know before buying | |
|---|---|---|
| FiveGuard | Most complete, HWID bans, best known | Expensive (subscription per server), very long config, easy to misconfigure into false bans, English support |
| WaveShield | Strong injector detection | Also expensive, support via an international Discord |
| X3D Anti-Cheat | Evidence before the ban: the player's screenshot attached to the Discord embed, admins alerted in-city, humans decide · auto-ban only for certain cases · HWID ban · Steam+Discord Account Lock · Discord-role queue · protect any resource with two lines · ESX Legacy + standalone · Thai and English support | BETA price, one-time 599 THB, 7-day free trial · still BETA, bug reports welcome |
| X3D Replay | The evidence layer next to an anticheat: records every player and lets admins watch the minute around an incident back in game, with pressed keys and macro flags · ESX Legacy + oxmysql | BETA price, one-time 599 THB, 7-day free trial · not an anticheat, it does not ban anyone |
Where false positives come from
- God mode on spawn/revive: the game briefly sets full health; an anticheat without a grace period bans everyone who dies
- Speed hack during script teleports: garages and housing warp players; the script's own events must be whitelisted
- Vehicles/NPCs spawned by scripts: the anticheat must separate server-created entities from client-created ones. The X3D Build fires
esx:serverEntityCreatedso X3D Anti-Cheat whitelists them automatically - High ping / low FPS make positions jump; good systems average over seconds, not one sample
Ask the vendor how they handle these four before buying. If they cannot answer, do not enable auto-ban.
At 2,000 players the anticheat must not eat the server
An anticheat that is fine for 64 players can be the heaviest resource on a 2,000-player server. Ask the vendor these four questions before buying, and measure with profiler record 500 before and after ensure at peak hours.
- How do you detect without looping over every player every tick? A server-side loop checking position, health or weapons for 2,000 players every 100 ms is the biggest hitch on the server. Systems that survive this scale detect on the client and send only suspicious cases up with evidence, and validate events server-side in an event-driven way
- Evidence must not block the main thread. 20 cases an hour × a screenshot each must upload to Discord or storage asynchronously, never inside the game tick
- A role-based join queue. A 2,048-slot city is full every night with 500–1,000 people waiting. A queue ordered by Discord role (donors, staff, regulars) is a feature used every day, not a bonus
- The ban list must live in a database. Tens of thousands of identifiers and HWIDs in a JSON file loaded on every join is needless slowness, and someone has to watch the log 24/7: the admin team is part of the "anticheat" at this scale
At what size does it pay off
| Size | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Under 32 players who know each other | The six free steps plus the X3D Build audit log |
| 32–128, open to the public | A paid anticheat that captures evidence for admins; start with the 7-day trial |
| 128–500 with real money circulating | Anticheat + HWID ban + role queue + full audit log, and someone reading the log daily |
| 1,000–2,048 (a city) | All of the above + proof via profiler that it does not hitch at 2,000 + evidence before every ban + ban list in a database + admin shifts on the log 24/7. Enable auto-ban only for cases that went 7 days at peak without a false positive |
FAQ
Two anticheats at once? Not recommended: duplicate checks, frame cost and conflicting bans. Pick one and configure it well.
Does an anticheat stop a backdoored leaked script? Partly (foreign resource detection, rate limits), but a backdoor inside a script you ensure yourself is out of scope. Do not run leaks.
Does X3D Anti-Cheat support QBCore? Currently ESX Legacy and standalone (single-file bridge). Details on the product page.
X3D Anti-Cheat on a 2,000-player server? Use the 7-day free trial on the live server at peak, measure with profiler before and after ensure, and run it in alert-only mode (no auto-ban) first. The X3D team supports Thai and English and tunes values from your server's profiler output. No anticheat, ours included, should have auto-ban enabled at two thousand players without going through that step.
The free structural anti-exploit scripts (economy-locking core, server-checked usable items, gang jobs that check distance at the end) are in the free FiveM scripts post.
