Renting a FiveM server host: VPS, dedicated or game panel, specs by player count, rough prices and a checklist before you pay (2026)

A 2026 guide to FiveM server hosting: machine rent vs slot fees (Element Club), how many players are free, the specs that matter most (single-thread CPU, NVMe, DDoS protection), rough specs from 32 to 2,048 players, game panel vs VPS vs dedicated, approximate monthly prices, and a 9-point checklist before paying.

The monthly cost of a FiveM server has two parts people often mix up: machine rent (paid to your host) and slots (paid to Cfx.re through Element Club when you need more players than the free limit). This guide separates them, then helps you pick a machine for your player count.

The specs and rental prices here are estimates from several hosts, not official Cfx.re figures. Use them as a starting point and always measure with your own scripts.

What you need wherever you host

  • A free server key from portal.cfx.re
  • The free limit: per fivem.net/server-hosting, up to 48 players with OneSync at no cost from Cfx.re
  • More than 48 players needs Element Club (USD per month before VAT, checked 7 Oct 2026):
Tier Price/month Slots
Argentum 15 USD 64
Aurum 25 USD 128 (OneSync Infinity)
Platinum 50 USD 2,048 (OneSync Infinity)

Perks can take up to 6 hours to activate after subscribing. Ask your host whether a plan includes Element Club or you subscribe yourself.

In server.cfg: servers above 32 players need OneSync, and above 64 need onesync on.

Windows or Linux

FXServer runs on both, but the Cfx.re docs call Linux a "courtesy port" because of distribution compatibility issues. If your team isn't comfortable with Linux, Windows is simpler. If you choose Linux, use a distribution your host already supports for FiveM.

The specs that matter most

  1. Per-core CPU speed (single-thread). Most of a FiveM server's main work runs on one thread, so a high-clock CPU with fewer cores usually beats many slow cores. Always ask for the exact CPU model before renting
  2. NVMe storage: the database and resource loading are many times faster than on SATA SSDs or HDDs
  3. RAM enough for FXServer, the database and txAdmin not to fight
  4. Network and DDoS protection that covers the game's UDP traffic, not just websites. Ask what kind
  5. Distance to your players: for Thai players, a machine in Thailand or Singapore is usually far better than Europe or the US. Test ping from several home ISPs before deciding

Rough specs by player count

Players Type Rough starting spec
Up to 32 VPS 2–4 high-clock vCPU, 8–16 GB RAM, NVMe
64–128 strong VPS or dedicated 4–8 high-clock cores, 16–32 GB RAM, NVMe
128–500 dedicated 8–12 high-clock cores, 32 GB+ RAM, NVMe
1,000–2,048 several high-clock dedicated machines no reliable public spec; load-test for real and move the database and voice off the game machine

Hosts' own guides disagree on RAM (for 64 players some say 16 GB, others 32 GB), and the number and weight of your scripts matter as much as player count. For a 2,000-player city, see the full structure in what it costs to open a FiveM server and voice stutter with pma-voice.

Which kind of hosting

Type Best for Pros Watch out for
Game panel (rented by slot) beginners, small servers quick setup, a control panel, some include DDoS protection and backups little control, usually priced per slot on a shared CPU
VPS test servers, up to roughly 150 players low starting price, root access the physical machine is shared, so performance can swing
Dedicated above roughly 150 players and big cities the whole CPU is yours, steady performance costs more, you run the system yourself
Colocation (your own hardware) teams with a sysadmin full control, can pick a Thai data centre you handle hardware and DDoS yourself

Rough monthly prices

USD per month from some hosts' pricing pages (roughly 35 THB per USD):

  • Game panel: one example runs about 9 USD (10 slots) to 37 USD (48 slots) per 30 days ≈ 300–1,300 THB
  • VPS: about 15–60 USD ≈ 500–2,100 THB
  • Dedicated (128–512 players): about 80–150 USD ≈ 2,800–5,300 THB
  • 1,000+ players: much higher, depending on how many machines and whether the database and voice are split out

Add Element Club above 48 players, plus domain and backup costs if the plan doesn't include them.

A 9-point checklist before paying

  1. Which CPU model, at what clock (not just "4 vCPU")
  2. Where is the data centre, and what's the ping from Thai home internet
  3. What DDoS protection, and does it cover the game's UDP traffic
  4. Unmetered bandwidth or a cap
  5. Is the disk NVMe, and how big
  6. Is txAdmin supported, with full file access
  7. How often are automatic backups taken, and how many are kept
  8. Is Element Club included, or do you subscribe yourself
  9. How do you cancel, and can you move out easily

FAQ

How much does renting a FiveM server cost? — Small servers start at a few hundred THB a month (game panel/VPS), public servers in the thousands, and 1,000+-player cities in the tens of thousands, plus Element Club above 48 players.

Do I have to pay for Element Club? — Not up to 48 players. Beyond that you need a tier that covers your slot count.

Can I host on my own PC instead? — Yes, for testing or playing with friends: open port 30120 and keep the PC on. A server open to the public should be rented. Details in what it costs to open a FiveM server.

Don't want to set it up yourself? — The X3D team offers FiveM server setup: ESX + txAdmin, database and performance tuning. To configure txAdmin yourself, see the txAdmin guide.
